Byelaws of the Schools' Union

 

1. The name of this Union shall be Kent Schools Rugby Football Union (“the Union”).

2. For the purpose of these Byelaws “Kent” is the administrative county of Kent, the Borough of Medway and the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth and Lewisham.

3. The object of the Union shall be the promotion and furtherance of the game of Rugby Football Union in schools in Kent.

4. Membership shall be open to all schools in Kent willing to conform to the Byelaws of the Union.

5. Management of the Union shall be vested in the Officers and Committee who shall have sole control of the funds, and sole power of incurring liabilities for the Union. The Officers and Committee shall be responsible for arranging annual cup and sevens competitions, filling casual vacancies amongst the Officers and Committee, augmenting itself by co-opting additional members and appointing Sub-Committees and Vice Presidents at their discretion.

6. The Officers of the Union shall consist of President, Senior Vice President, Chairman, Deputy Chairman (if required), Honorary Secretary, Honorary Assistant Secretary (if required), Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Assistant Treasurer (if required) who shall be appointed each year at the Annual General Meeting, which shall be held in May.

7. The Committee of the Union shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting and shall consist of not more than fourteen members. In addition, the following organisations may be invited to nominate members to be co-opted to the Committee:

Kent County RFU   up to two members
Kent Society RFU Referees  one member
London Society RFU Referees  one member

8. The Committee shall meet at least three times each year, when the number of members forming a quorum shall be one third of the members currently elected as officers or committee members, excluding co-opted members.

9. The Union, at the Annual General Meeting, may elect a Patron.

10. These byelaws may be altered by a motion at an Annual General Meeting that is carried by at least two thirds of those present, eligible to vote and voting.

11. The Union may be wound up by a resolution to do so, notified in the agenda, at an Annual General Meeting or another general meeting called by the Officers and notified to all Member schools at least 14 days before the appointed date of the meeting. The resolution shall be deemed to have been carried if two thirds of those present and voting are in favour.

12. Following a decision to wind up the Union all assets of the Union shall be passed to England Rugby Football Schools Union for the purposes of developing rugby in schools predominantly attended by children with physical disabilities.
